Home Insurance Rhode Island

I think I might be pregnant but I won’t have health insurance until Nov. 1st through my husband’s health plan.?
We had recently moved from Rhode Island to New Jersey. My husband and I had health insurance from my former employer in Rhode Island. My husband works and I am a stay home wife at the moment. My husband started his new job last month but won’t have health insurance until November 1st (90 day probation period). We suspected I was pregnant so we just took a home pregnancy test yesterday and it resulted that I am pregnant. (I’m most likely only 3 weeks pregnant) We are very excited! But we want to go for an initial check-up to start prenatal care. Should we wait till my husband’s insurance goes into effect so this is not considered a “pre-existing” condition. Is this even a pre-existing condition? I have the option to elect COBRA for myself. What should I do in my situation?
Elect COBRA, as soon as possible. You don’t want to have a gap in coverage. Pregnancy is a pre-existing condition, and they can exclude coverage for the amount of time you were not covered. For example, if you went 6 months without insurance before you started the new plan, they can refuse to cover you for 6 month after you start the plan. Get COBRA, and when you terminate, get a Certificate of Credible Coverage from the old insurance company, send it to the new one, and you’ll be covered the whole time.
